Hey, I am currently playing on a slightly easier version of your "author's pick" marathon deathworld preset (I disabled enemy expansion).
All was going fine so far until the tanker nation attacked and they are pretty impervious to anything I got the tech for, save for grenades but they are manual use only. Piercing damage is not good as their resistances to that damage type are still very high. They don't cost much pollution to produce on top of that.
Could they be less of a roadblock? At least the smaller ones.
