Yeah, so I don't know if this is even worth fixing, as after the "stokes 2" modules I abandoned the whole line, determining that the regular prod modules are the superior choice from 4 onwards. But,

It looks as though the "stokes" modules were intended to not work in all prod-enabled machines, while the "gauss" modules claim to be "universal". Well, the stokes modules do work in all machines, not just 248k ones, and the gauss modules are crappier in every way as far as I can see, and vastly more expensive, and much further down the tech tree.

Correction- the one which could be unlocked with deep space science 4 is potentially better. But unless you were silly enough to be making the modules leading up to this instead of prod 6,7,8,9 then you will likely not be able to afford them. (And who cares at that point, you've won the game)

You're sorta close. In 1.1, certain machines added by 248k did not accept standard productivity, only the 248k modules. That was their intended niche, though I remember using a few other places in my game on that version, for something where I wanted to eke out as much output as possible from a limited input that I wasn't going to get to enlarging for a while.

That's still possible in 2.0, but the mechanic didn't make it across anyway. I'd like to see it put back, but since Suplanke has said they want to step down as maintainer of the mod, a development like that might be unlikely until someone willing to take it on shows up.
