g Progression question

Progression seems odd to me. I finally managed to clear the only oil patch I had very far away from my starter base. I piped the oil back and started researching a tank to further clear out and secure my borders. Once the research completed I realized I needed sulfuric acid which is further unlocked at a different point in the tree. Maybe I'm missing something but shouldn't prereq researches be listed beforehand? I feel like I'm searching through the tech tree now to see what all i need before I'm actually able to use the tech I want.

1.2.48 is rearranging some technologies which inadvertently addresses this.
