g Oil: Need help calculating

a month ago

Hi all!
It's pretty obvious that refining oil with the advanced recipe is easier but gives less results... or am I wrong?
My question is, how much more efficient is it to use the distillation towers? Lest say for an input of 100 crude oil if you only care for petroleum gas?
Unfortunately I'm not very experienced with helmod to calculate by myself
Can anybody help?

Appears Advanced oil processing was previously removed by EI 0.6.9, restored removal in 1.2.19.

Thank you for the clarification about Advanced Oil Processing.

I just wanted to mention that in version 1.2.19, the recipe for Advanced Oil Processing is present, but there doesn’t seem to be any research available to unlock it.

This might simply be an oversight during the recent update, but currently it means the recipe can't be accessed in normal gameplay.

Just wanted to bring this to your attention in case it helps. Thanks again for all your hard work—really enjoying the mod!

@jebus

  • Advanced Oil Processing produces 88 petroleum gas, 72 light oil, and 40 heavy oil from 160 crude oil.

  • Distillation Towers produce 90 petroleum gas, 72 light oil, and 40 heavy oil from just 90 crude oil, plus several additional byproducts.

  • However, Distillation Towers consume about 10 times more electricity.

PreLeyZero has the Advanced Oil Processing recipe removed in the original EI which Remembrance strives to observe the vision of—bypassing the distillation tower mechanic and associated byproducts isn't compelling gameplay.

Eliont's ESI port trivialized many recipes, reversed many added complexities, and otherwise simplified EI—this is merely the latest "Restoration" of original vision.

Ergo the removal of the recipe from the Advanced Oil Processing technology is intentional.

@FuelPoweredCoder

Thanks for your calculations! Like I guessed the way with Distillation Towers is more productive while more energy hungry. That's the tradeoff.
You wrote Distillation Towers consume more electricity. You mean energy by heat? Or am I missing a way to create heat by electricity?

a month ago

@jebus

Tier 1 Distillation Towers run on heat from burning solid or liquid fuel, as you probably know.
Tier 2 uses electricity instead — that’s what I meant by higher power consumption.

So yes, the tradeoff is energy source: fuel-based heat vs. direct electricity.

Ah, I see. Tier 2 Distillation Towers are not researched yet. But now I really have something to look forward to. Thanks!

As an idea. If the advanced oil processing is beeing removed in the newer versions, what about a oil refining productivity science for a substitute?

a month ago

Productivity modules (Which go up-to level 6) are allowed for Oil/byproduct processing.

Additional productivity can be added through the Liquid nitrogen cooled beacons.

See if those don't offer significant gains.
