Whats the expected behavior of the outposts?

Are you supposed to destroy everything to loot it? I ask because that's seemingly the only way I can seem to get anything to drop, otherwise I get the error message "Enemy Structures cannot be mined" even on the containers.

The intent is to blow them up and take all the loot and scrap dropped by the structures.

The storage containers will drop interesting loot depending on the distance/structure visuals.

They also provide a mild 3rd party crossfire feeling of aliens and outposts chipping away at each other while you get as involved as you want.

I saw a lone laser turret by itself and was confused on why I couldn't loot it and basically acted as a glorified camera (no power, literally by itself). I took it out and it did indeed drop loot, as well as a different Outpost's warehouse that had no defenses just a bit north of it. Going further out provided more of a challenge, as expected.
