Usages:
You have laser towers in your outposts and the electricity connection gets interrupted by those nasty biters.
With this mod that's a not a problem anymore.
Attach your laser towers to a seperate electricity-loop and put a few accumulators in there.
The transformer will keep your accumulators charged up, even at night.

The old transformer mod had the problem that it constantly drained power, even when there was no drain in the target network, so I replaced the internals with my own mechanics.
