Hey guys,
Moshine is one of my favorites but recently you changed how data processors work (they only have inputs now).
I understand that for long range transport you want us to put data on cells, similar to barrel transportation.

But if there is a range on fiber cables and people are so desperate to extend it with processors, either let them do it or code a better logic.
Fiber optical signals are enhanced in the real world as well (even if sending a truck loaded with hard drives is still the fastest method to transfer data).

The other point is that cores are ugly now.
You took a few steps back with the latest updates.

Hi, thanks for the feedback!

I did the data processor change to fix a problem with the cables: I want my fiber to be infinite, but there seems to be a bug with factorio when you have input/output fluid boxes, the connected cable reverts back to having a 320 tile limit. I want to avoid adding buildings with limited use, so I didn't want to add pumps (data uses the pipe/fluid logic). I confess I didn't think about having the data processors being a signal relay, I actually like that idea

The other point is that cores are ugly now.

Might need further work on them then. I'm trying to make the progression clearer (tier 1 must look insignificant compared to t10, and I used quality colors to hammer in the point)
Is it the size that you don't like? the colors? Specific ones you find ugly? the base or the base light? You have some suggestions for them? I've been struggling to make these icons really work

The other point is that cores are ugly now.

With feedback from discord, I reworked them again, making them closer to the first version, but using the rarity colors.

BTW I reported the input/output problem to WUBE, and they fixed it for .45. Once .45 is pushed in stable, I'll revert the behavior to a bidirectional fluidbox

I saw that in the changelog for .45 and your post on the forums as I like to look at the user reports that lead to the bug fix. While I don't agree with his coping and seething, I do think the new system does warrant at least discussion. I do not see the purpose to having the fiber optic cables (HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS!) be bi-directional. I used to do networking infrastructure for OC-192 backbones for colleges and businesses, and they ALWAYS had 2 cables, one for downstream, one for upstream at the bare minimum. Why? Because fiber optic cable (HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS!) works by sending 1 (light on) or 0 (light off). I don't know if it's theoretically possible to have bi-directional fiber optic cable (HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS!) without establishing some kind of communication schedule ahead of time.

Anyway, I've since learnt that fiber optics has gotten exponentially more complicated, however, it's just because they added more bonded pairs, not exactly the best solution.

However, you could argue that the AI you're building is so vastly intelligent it knows how to perfectly demultiplex the signal by something something AI something something science.
