Steel pipes don't connect to tanks, either vanilla or K2 big tanks. They also don't connect to regular pipes. They do connect to buildings and pumps so there is a work around. I know there's no throughput benefit, but they do have longer underground length. On the bright side, I can now run steel pipes adjacent to regular pipes for extra spaghetti.

That's normal steel pipe behavior in krastorio 2.0 non-space age included. You can disable it with Krastorio2-steel-pipes-only-ignore-the-iron-pipes
