WIP WARNING!

The mod is in active early development, I have many plans yet to do, ideas to try, things to fix and balance, so, use it on your own risk: parameters and recipes can be changed leading to surprises like broken production pipelines, etc.

1. How it works

Step 1. Extract details

Search for broken titans, build an excavation machine and use it to retrieve titan details.

Step 2. Use RevLab

Use reverse engineering to retrieve science packs of Titans technology.

Note: instead of steps 1 and 2, you can craft titans science packs and details from scratch, but this requires an extremely advanced factory. Let me know if you have overcome this challenge!

Step 3. Research

Do the following tech researches:
1. Titans Assembly that will allow you to craft a titans assembly bunker
2. Titan class 1 War Hound, that will allow you to assemble the smallest titan class
3. Titan weapons grade 1, that will allow you to assemble basic titans' weaponary

Step 4. Assemble

Build a Titan Assembly Bunker, use it to specify configuration of titan class and cannons you want, then put required details that you extracted or produced.

Step 5. Drive and Annihilate!

  • Basically, it's like a car: use Enter and WASD use arrows.
  • Press Z, X, C to attack when inside a titan!
  • Use Titan Dashboard to set up cannons or to zoom out.
  • Multiplayer supported, so, you can control a titan together! In case of desync issues, let me know.

If you play alone or have many titans, you can install AAI Programmable Vehicles which is integrated for remote control. Cleaning a planet fast and easy as never before! Don't forget to also enable AI mode for cannons when sending a titan for walk.


2. Planned content

I. Titans

There are 5 main class categories of the Legio Titanicus war engines, some of them have multiple patterns or models. Here is a list of what will be presented in the mod:
- I. War Hound is a Scout Titan, the smallest class of Imperial Titan is used as a scout carrying out reconnaissance of the enemy lines or as the flanking element of a Titan Legion in conjunction with others of its kind.
- I. Dire Wolf is a Heavy Scout Titan, a sturdier yet slower version of War Hound, having smaller arms but carrying a top cannon similar to Reaver.
- II. Reaver is flexible and multi-role, not as heavily armed as the Warlord-class Titans, or as fast and agile as the Scout Titans, but the Reaver is a potent war machine in its own right.
- III. War Lord titan, carrying 2 heavy arm cannons and 2 shoulder guns, forms the mainstay of Battle Titan Legions.
- IV. War Master is a Heavy Battle Titan and one most powerful machines in the Imperium of Man.
- V. Imperator is a Superheavy Battle Titan class, also know as Emperor Titan class or the God Engine, is the largest and most powerful military technology of humanity.
- V. War Monger is a another Superheavy Battle Titan class, more suitable for long-range attacks.

In addition, Titans:
- Carry different heavy weapons of customisable setup.
- Provide dashboard, perfect for multiplayer control.
- Can crush smaller enemies or buildings with their foots.
- Have void shield that absorb most of incoming damage.

II. Cannons

15+ weapons (10 already done) of 4 grades from a basic lasgun to the mighty Hellstorm Cannon. In the game, you will see detailed descriptions about weapon's damage and ammo.

Below is a brief list of weapons grouped by grade; you can find icons description in the final section of the page.

Grade 0 Minimalis:

Grade 1 Normalis:

- 🟒 Inferno Cannon
- 🟒 Plasma Blastgun
- 🟒 Missile Launcher
- 🟒 Apocalypse Missile Launcher

Grade 2 Magnus:
- 🟒 Laser Blaster – x3 lascannon
- 🟒 Plasma Destructor
- 🟑 Gatling Blaster – 6-barrel huge bolter

- πŸ”΄ Volkite Destructor (mega melta)
- πŸ”΄ Graviton Ruinator
- ⚫ Quake Cannon – like on BaneBlade
- ⚫ Titan Power Fist (melee!)

- ⚫ Trident (melee!)

Grade 3 Grandis:
- πŸ”΅ Plasma Annihilator
- πŸ”΄ Hellstorm Cannon – x5 big hell cannons
- ⚫ Doomstrike Missile Battery

III. Custom titan configuration

You can mount different cannons to a titan, but considering titan class: there are 5 classes of titans with 3 types of weapon mounting positions (arms, top, sides) for 4 grades of cannons.

  1. WarHound only has 2 arms positions
  2. Reaver has 3 guns places: 2 arms, 1 back of the head
  3. WarLord has 4 weapon places: 2 arms, 2 shoulders
  4. WarMaster has 6 places: 2 arms, 2 shoulders, 2 sides
  5. Imperator also has 6 places: 2 arms, 2 shoulders, 2 sides

Here is a table with number of weapon mount positions and max weapon grade in it:

Titans and their weapon mount positions have different heights, which also affects min & max attack distance of cannons.

A mounting position can carry a weapon of grade equal or minus 1 of allowed grade. Examples:
- WarHound arms can have cannons of grade 1 only.
- War Lord arms can have cannons of grade 2 or 1.
- Imperor titan arms can have cannons of grade 3 or 2.

IV. Titans production

It's much easier to combine existing details of titans and their weapons into working machines. Titan parts can be obtained from these ways:

  1. Independent production. Creation of titan details, as well as related science pack, from raw materials is a really challenging logistic problem!
  2. Collection and restoration of broken titans using a Titan Ruin Extractor.
    2.1. Player-created titans can be destroyed into corpses.
    2.2. There are randomly spawned ruined titans. Do you remember Winter Assault?

V. Titans assembly

Titans are HUGE, hence, it's not possible to mine/loot a titan into an item and manually place elsewhere. Instead, a special entity is used to combine details, specify configuration, and assemble or deconstruct these mighty war machines: the Titan Assembly Bunker. It has different inputs to choose titan class, weapon types, and to place their ingredients and ammo.

VII. Other mods compatibility & integration

Speaking on recipes and technology, the mod changes no vanilla recipes and basically should be compatible with almost any other mod. Also, it relies on Common Industries / Bridge Technologies which provides integrations with most of overhauls.

About other mechanics. For now, Titans corpses spawn on Nauvis only, but planets from Space Exploration and Warptorio 2 are planned to add.

3. Possible future content

  • Standalone void shields and plasma generators as building.
  • Standalone titan weapons. Do you remember Dark Crusade?
  • Titan machine spirit can go wild during stress conditions. This should be prevented with sanctified, holy ingredients.
  • Omnissiah-blessed lubricant and Emperor-blessed runes ingredients for titan Machine Spirit awakening process.
  • Psyker runes production pipeline of different types: for the sake of Emperor, Khorn, Tzinch, Slaanesh, Nurgle, Chaos united.
  • Chaos daemons corrupted titans. And a cruel magic ritual to transform titans, that requires destruction of another titan of the same class.
  • Psyker titans – Ordo Sinister.

4. Inspiration and global goals

From one point of view, I really love WarHammer 40.000 from my childhood! Actually, lots of characters and races without preferring someones more. Besides the lore, I adore WH40k Dawn of War game series of Real-Time-Strategy genre, especially with Ultimate Apocalypse mod which showed me astonishingly epic Titans many years ago.

From another point of view, I'm a software engineer with wide experience, including GameDev, and I consider Factorio more like a game engine. I believe it has much higher potential than it's used for now. Being also passionate about Game Design, I have a detailed vision and wanna develop several large mods that will add mechanics and possibilities of other game genres I love: RTS / RTT and Rogue-like / RPG. Basically, I mean:

  1. Fun and powerful combat capabilities (like this mod).
  2. Srategically smart and interesting enemies, battles.
  3. Lots of explorational content and enthralling locations, quests.

This will make Factorio a cool game even without factories!.. But I strive to change no vanilla recipes and maintain compatibility with overhaul mods.
