Rust Remover

by 1Aero

Ever wanted your Factorio machines to look newer, cleaner and more shiny? Almost all base game entities have had their rust and dirt pixels replaced by more metallic cleaner versions, without removing much of the detail or shading. No game-play or balance changes, this mod is purely for aesthetic purposes. Space Age not supported as this mod is already pushing 190mb. May have limited compatibility with other mods as it directly replaces the sprites with new versions.

Hey, I wanted to say I really quite like it overall. The shiny metal look is a pretty good aesthetic I think. The colors still show up fine where relevant, but a lot of the machines that don't have that look are quite different and cleaned up! It's not quite the shiny plastic-and-chrome iFactory I've always dreamed of, but it's a heck of a lot closer than I've been before.

I did want to say, you'll probably get a lot more traffic with the addition of some screenshots.

In addition, I'm not sure if parts of the Oil Refinery are on a different layer or mask, but I notice that some parts of it are still rusty. Mostly connecting pipes from one spot to another that show fluid in them.

Hello

Thank you for the comments, appreciate it.

I was going to do some screenshots after 1.0.8 as i was still improving a lot of the sprites.

The new oil refinery is a huge pain in the arse. Its a big, dark, low contrast sprite with rust everywhere, even on the light.png and on most of the animations. I hand masked and protected the bronze coloured pipes on purpose to break up the grey. There were no other accent colours to work with. When cleaned completely, it just looked like a big grey blob and it was difficult to make out of any details.

Im not satisfied with it but I don't know how to make it look any better. I already invested probably easily over 10 hours on that building alone and my eyes are sick of looking at it presently.

Oof! I don't blame you at all. The earliest form of modding I ever tried was sprite editing for games with an eighth of the resolution and a sixteenth as many individual frames.

I can absolutely see what you're saying about it disappearing into a big blob. I'm also a bit at a loss about what might improve in that regard. I'm certainly no graphic designer myself.

Screenshots look great!
