i [working on it] Feedback

Hello,
Thank you for making another interesting planet mod. I haven’t finished it yet but there were few things which did strike me as little odd already.

  1. Presence of calcite in rocks is a bit confusing, is there plan to either introduce deposits or planet specific recipe which will produce calcite?

  2. I am not sure what is the intended way to produce energy. I see you removed ability of building accumulators on the planet, but there is no alternative option to store energy from solar panels. So far most viable option seems to be heating towers with turbines as far as self sustaining options go or import nuclear / fusion cells. Am I missing something? Also screenshots in mod portal page still have accumulators in them which is confusing to new players.

  3. Neodymium mining is behaving strangely - I have speed boosted miners which produce fully stacked blue belt (180 items / s) and I often don’t see single piece of neodymium for minutes and then miners suddenly spill several stacks. Would it be possible to make it more consistent? I get that it is supposed to be somewhat rare resource but right now I just stare at the belt for 10 minutes while inserters are dumping everything to molten iron pool while waiting for the neodymium.
Perhaps increase amount of neodymium in the mix and add step which will make more use of other resources from the mix or instead of having sand and neodymium have them mixed together in a contaminated ore, which needs to be washed / treated to separate sand from neodymium. Productivity would increase yield of neodymium and decrease yield of sand from the recipe. Or have infinite research which will affect the recipe yield.

Hello, i also played a bit for testing and i wonder, is there a way to make optical cables stretch longer than 320 tiles?
I think there is no harm to remove this limit, so we can connect very distant data sources. Or maybe make a dedicated data regenerater (pump, but for optical cables only?)

Hi, thanks for the feedback, I won't have the time to modify stuff probably for a few days, lemme just discuss all that. I'll explain my rationale, and I'm open to change suggestions if you disagree with it

Presence of calcite in rocks is a bit confusing, is there plan to either introduce deposits or planet specific recipe which will produce calcite?

I added calcite, iron and stone in rocks to make the planet technically beatable even if you're stranded. The calcite can be used to bootstrap a self-sustaining coal liquefaction loop, but other than that, the planet can be fully automated without a calcite production, since it's molten iron directly in the lava pools.

I am not sure what is the intended way to produce energy

My idea was to make it not storable (in the lore, it's too dangerous to store it when it's so hot), that way you have to always have to produce it in real time, so you have to minimize use at night, as you rely on steam energy, but by day you have just too much with solar energy. I'm still thinking about the energy for the continuation of the mod, as I'm sure there's a potentially cool puzzle to be made out of that restriction

Neodymium mining is behaving strangely

This is 100% normal behavior, as I wanted an original problem to solve with it. So neo is very rare but comes in a big batch Originally, it was 1/10000 chance, with 2700 getting out at once, I changed that but I might have made Neodymium a BIT too rare now (I wanted to make it feel precious), and I still need to balance the output ratio of mixed ores (other people gave me the feedback that Neo is too rare too, while sulfur and sand are just too abundant)

is there a way to make optical cables stretch longer than 320 tiles?

Oh I didn't think of that. Cable is actually using the same code as pipes, but unlike pipe, it doesn't have a way to stretch it like pumps do. I'll try to change it as that wasn't intended

Yeah, I have my storage overflowing with sand and sulfur while I have yet to get a single neudymium roll.

How about splitting out one of the other common ores at least? Sand and sulphur deposits might be nice?

Or another idea, let us centrifuge the sand for trace amounts of ores.

On the other hand I just figured out the molten iron works just like vulcanus lava for deleting items, so I guess I'll just dump it all.
