Cerys

Fulgora's moon of puzzles. Ancient wrecks embedded in thick ice can seemingly be repaired, including a colossal nuclear reactor that could transform the possibilities on the surface... if you can get it working. Cerys is a complete and polished mod that does not modify the vanilla game in any way, so is easy to include in existing saves.

g Almost soft-locked, but... (Glass, Sand, Stone)

So I was eager to try something new in my definitely-too-many-mods playthrough, so decided to come to Cerys before Fulgora. However, I then ran into a problem - with all the mods I have, chemical plants take glass, which is made from sand, which is made from crushing stone. Oh, and basic smelters cant be placed, and i need concrete liquid to make electric ones. I thought I had soft locked myself with all the nonsense.

However, one of the many mods actually edited the cerys crusher to be able to use the additional crushing recipes, letting me crush stone into sand. And theres a recipe to turn solid concrete back into liquid using water, and of course concrete can be recycled to make bricks. So by the skin of my teeth, I was able to make a couple electric furnaces. Looking at the other mods (specifically Crushing Industry), I dont think any of them actively have notes about Cerys compatibility, so this ended up being a super happy accident which prevented my idiot brain from locking Cerys irreparably.

Just thought to mention a happy ending and admire the factorio modding communitys work. Cerys is great so far, tho it is breaking my brain lol.

There was actually some thought about this, as the author SafTheLamb is a fantastic modder I have often worked alongside in Discord.

Mods that change vanilla crafting chains have a very live chance of breaking Cerys, even despite its automated/algorithmic defense mechanisms — I am happy Crushing Industry is not one of these mods!

I think the cerys crusher is marked as a "space" crusher, which crushing industry (or perhaps Muluna, who knows lol) edited to allow for both land and asteroid recipes, as well as gave inate quality. The factorio modding community amazes me with how compatibility friendly many things are - the ease of marking items as a "base" resource is something ive seen a lot, where multiple planets will add gold, platinum, etc, and with just making sure to use the same tag BOOM instant compatibility. I do still have two types of glass though...

I also had a close call with Astroponics, though it felt a little more intentional. Needed to make lube with bioslurry, which needed liquid fertiliser, which was made in chemical plants, but the standard recipes didnt work on Cerys. Luckily, the fulgoran cryoplants had recipes that did work, just needed some piping.

I've just finished the tech tree, so am in the process of overhauling Cerys with bots and green belts, though admittedly power is gonna be an issue. Im admittedly struggling to find an optimal way to direct the particles - the particles the reactor shoots out doesnt seem to affect uranium in the same way, just passes them by, is that intentional?

Cerys has been a fun side excursion from the big planets, though holmium and engine productivity make me very excited for endless research, and i dont even need to send the science away! Am debating whether or not the special reactor and artillery will be worth exporting given the delicate balance of plutonium.

One caveat to this that I didn't realize...you can get soft locked if you otherwise use up all the blue circuits needed to repair the crusher. I just didn't have enough and thus couldn't produce sulfur.

@SWatt_Officer
where do you get stone to crush on Cerys?

I also have plenty of mods and have the same issue. I need glass, for that I need sand, and for that I need stone. What is recycled into stone? I tried everything...

The only way I can get sand right now is by recycling concrete, which RARELY gives iron ore, which RARELY (2%) gives 1 sand. Now I need plenty to make concrete to make an electric kiln, so that I can then make glass. It will take AGES to get enough sand this way. Would appreciate if you tell me where else I can get some stone to crush :)

It just comes from the nuclear scrap for me -1% stone chance. And it doesnt look like any mods are editing the recipe.

Ah yes, Cerys currently has compatibility code which looks for a list of mods (currently AAI Industry and Roc's Rusting Iron) and inserts 1% stone into nuclear scrap recycling if any are present.

I'm not playing other mods right now but if anyone has conclusions on how this list may be expanded in future, you can leave a note.

I am in love with how factorio modders are so active with compatibility - the sheer amount of failsafes, compatibility checks, and synchonisation across so many different mods makes me so mad at all those minecraft modpacks with like 5 types of bronze and 3 types of silver.

@thesixthroc oh this is super helpful!

I'm running Stellar Horizons modpack and it includes your mod as well as Crushing Industry, which introduces glass and sand as extra requirements.

I found your compatibility code and added "crushing-industry" there, and it did solve the problem! Now I have stone and can progress. Thanks a lot! Feel free to include this into your mod if you want.

It’s not clear to me from this thread whether Crushing Industry compatibility is currently a problem.

Its not - i have Crushing Industry and it adds the stone just fine. It seems that the other person was using a modpack that contained Crushing Industry, but not in a way that your mod recognised, so it didnt add the stone. They made a small tweak that made it recognise it and solved the issue. As far as I am aware there is no issue.
