Cerys

Fulgora's moon of puzzles. Ancient wrecks embedded in thick ice can seemingly be repaired, including a colossal nuclear reactor that could transform the possibilities on the surface... if you can get it working. Cerys is a complete and polished mod that does not modify the vanilla game in any way, so is easy to include in existing saves.

g Overriding of recycler recipes makes quality up-recycling impractical

Your mod is manually setting recycling outputs for a bunch of items while ignoring what some other mod may have changed the recipe to. This causes the output or recycling an item not match the inputs of crafting said item.

E.g I have a bunch of mods and to craft a beacon I need steel, red circuit, electric motor and concrete. Cerys overrides recycling of beacons to return steel, green and red circuit and copper cable. Half the recycling outputs are different from inputs making any kind of quality up-recycling highly impractical.

Perhaps just iterate over the recipes you wish to change to check if they actually have the ingredients that you want to change instead of overriding them all?

Cerys is dependent on certain vanilla recipes being unchanged, including each recycling recipe it overwrites. It’s incompatible with mods that change those recipes unless we write a compatibility patch that reworks the gameplay.

It would be nice if that was mentioned somewhere. Best would be to get a message on loading a game that points it out if some recipe has been altered from what Cerys expects so people would know to fix things before they're too deep in the game. E.g I discovered the issue after almost 250h and i'm not sure how I'll salvage my world. The description having "easily addable" and vanilla tweaks makes it sound as if issues like that shouldn't be possible.

I've been playing (heavily) modded factorio for about 12 years and this has been the first time I've had a problem like this. Though I guess it may not have been as apparent before space age as before that it could only cause some balance issues. Now it messes up working with quality and that is far more noticeable.

Sorry to hear that happened to your save. Unexpected recycling changes are a quite widespread problem in Space Age mods right now, and can also be triggered by mods adding new recipes. Exacerbating this issue, in contrast to non-DLC modding, many players install planet mods without knowing what content they contain.

I agree with your suggestion for a compatibility detector. I’ve thought for a while that someone should build that tool as a new mod or as part of PlanetsLib.

I’ve tweaked the wording in the long description to be somewhat less reassuring that the compatibility efforts in Cerys will actually be successful.

Thanks. Another alternative you could do would be to have a setting to reset the recipes of stuff you expect to be unchanged back to vanilla. It might mess with balancing of some other mods but as long as it is optional setting it would be on players to choose how they want things to be.

Cerys 2.0 now has a setting to disable it from enforcing the vanilla recycling recipes.

Yes, I noticed it when that update was released. I meant to thank you but stuff happened and I forgot. I hope a late thanks for the change is still good :)
