Frequently Asked Questions
Where did you get the graphics from?
I actually tried to start this design in .blender and found myself completely out of my depth. I needed a real 3D model designer to make this model. I reached out to https://www.fiverr.com/janiruisawesome?source=gig_page (Janiru Semitha) on fiver. If you need other similar models do reach out to him. I think we can all agree he really did a good job.
Why Does the Mod Thumbnail have better emissions?
The Glow from the reactor and the conduits in the mod thumbnail were the from the original .blend file. As I wanted to use the single fusion model for different versions of the train, I decided to create the emissions sprite map and then have Factorio the game create the different colour reactors and conduits. This way I could have one train model support Nuclear and Mk1-Mk5 fusion trains. This is still a work in progress and I might release updated versions when I can work out a better way of creating the emissions from factorio with a more professional look.
Why does the fusion trains quality NOT improve their performance?
I did not want have another round of gambling for faster trains due to quality. Some people like this and in many places I think it makes a good mechanic. At mega base level we already have enough grind, I did not want to include more. So I made different Mk1-Mk5 versions, so people can just get the better versions if they want them. I have also included in the mod recipes to directly upgrade M1 - > Mk2/Mk3/Mk4/Mk5 and the same for the rolling stock, you are just charged the the Mk* train or rolling stock entity and the difference in material. This way also we dont have lots of older versions just laying around cluttering up our storage chests.
You get better performance through the quality Cooled Fusion Locomotive Cell if your so inclined.
Why is the Nuclear Train setup only to Match Vanilla Acceleration ?
This train is unlocked the same time your nuclear reactor is unlocked. Its still early in the game but the main benefit is the fuel is so energy dense and with a stack of 5 the train can run for hours without refueling. If you want some additional performance consider using the equipment grid to a few Exoskeletons. The Nuclear train is configured for a higher top speed, just not extra acceleration.
I wanted this train in the game early enough as its can have shields installed, defenses, roboports, Exoskeletons to support the creation of outposts. This brings a lot of additional capabilities into the game early. Also train in the early game are always just about the run me over. I have seen enough death screens due to my character not being fast enough to get out the way.
