I researched the Sap Upgrade tech and selected "Alternate drilling points." Afterwards, my sap extractors (mk1 and mk2) didn't get the bonuses, and they do not show a productivity progress bar.
Reloading from before the upgrade I then tried the "Better inoculators" option instead and that also has no effect on my sap extractors.
