Mythic Quality (Reborn)

Adds Mythic, a quality tier above Legendary, and makes every quality stronger but harder to reach. Every value is configurable, including quality names. Updated for Factorio 2.1's new quality chances. Continuation of Mythic Quality with Configs by VextexFux, based on Steeper Quality by Durikkan (both MIT).

Mythic Quality (Reborn)

A sixth quality tier above Legendary, and steeper qualities across the board: every tier is stronger, but harder to reach. Everything is configurable.

This is a continuation of Mythic Quality with Configs by VextexFux, which built on Steeper Quality by Durikkan. It's updated for Factorio 2.1, with the bugs fixed. Both original mods are MIT licensed, and this one is too.

Features

  • Mythic quality. A new tier after Legendary with its own icon and research.
  • Steeper qualities. Higher tiers are much stronger (Legendary is level 10 instead of 5), and much rarer.
  • Built for Factorio 2.1's quality system. 2.1 changed how quality chances work. The defaults keep the original mod's balance under the new rules.
  • Extra module slots for better buildings. Rare and better assemblers, furnaces, rocket silos, mining drills, labs and beacons get more module slots (a Mythic Assembling machine 3 has 7).
  • Quality labs use fewer science packs. Works on every lab, modded ones included.
  • Better trains. Mythic locomotives, cargo wagons and train top speed carry on the vanilla quality progression.
  • Rename any quality. Leave the name blank to keep the game's translated names.
  • Works with or without Space Age. Quality on its own is enough.

Default values

Quality Level (vanilla) Chance to upgrade from it Chance to keep going in the same craft Beacon power Mining drill drain Lab science drain Extra module slots
Normal 0 (0) 100% → Uncommon – 100% 100% 100% 0
Uncommon 1 (1) 70% → Rare 7% → Rare 110% 86% 99% 0
Rare 3 (2) 30% → Epic 3% → Epic 130% 78% 97% 1
Epic 6 (3) 5% → Legendary 0.5% → Legendary 170% 66% 94% 1
Legendary 10 (5) 0.5% → Mythic 0.05% → Mythic 250% 50% 90% 2
Mythic 15 – – 500% 30% 85% 3

How to read the chances:
- Chance to upgrade from it is a percentage of the quality chance shown on the machine. With a 20% quality machine, Normal ingredients have a 20% chance to come out Uncommon, and Uncommon ingredients have 14% (70% of 20%).
- Chance to keep going is what happens right after an upgrade: an item that just became Uncommon has a 7% chance to jump straight on to Rare in the same craft. Vanilla is 10% for every tier.

Better buildings use more beacon power but drain resource patches and science packs more slowly. Every value in the table can be changed in the startup settings.

Mythic research

Mythic quality is unlocked by its own technology. It needs Legendary quality and costs 500,000 units of every science pack the lab accepts, so in Space Age it comes after Promethium science. The cost can be changed in the settings.

Settings (startup)

  • Name, upgrade chance and chance to keep going for every tier.
  • Power level, beacon power use, mining drill drain, lab science drain and extra module slots for every tier.
  • Quality adds module slots: on/off.
  • Lab quality lowers science pack use: on/off.
  • Mythic research cost. 0 means automatic: 500,000, or 3,000 with Space Exploration.
  • Apply quality settings last: re-applies these values at the very end of loading so other mods can't change them. Turn it off if you want another mod to adjust qualities.

Compatibility

  • Better Quality (Reborn) (3.3.0 or newer): tested together.
  • Belts, mining drills and locomotive efficiency scale with these quality levels: a Legendary turbo belt runs at 180/s and a Mythic one at 240/s.
  • Legendary roboports, substations and big poles still tile perfectly, and the Mythic versions reach further.
  • Quality Labs and Tenebris: load before this mod, so their science packs count toward Mythic research.
  • Not compatible with Steeper Quality, Mythic Quality with Configs or its fork. They change the same things, so use only one.

Coming from Mythic Quality with Configs?

  • Disable the old mod and enable this one.
  • Your save keeps its Mythic items, Mythic buildings and Mythic research, because the quality and technology names haven't changed.
  • Your mod settings start fresh. Factorio 2.1 counts quality chances differently, so the old values would be wrong under the new system. If you changed any settings before, set them again.
