Fall of Promethea
Long ago, an ancient and advanced civilization reached the pinnacle of technology, mastering weapons, manufacturing, and space travel. Their fate and the details of their demise remains unknown, but among the ruins of their fractured world, you will attempt to decipher their lost secrets.
Purpose
I flew to the edge of the solar system—and wanted more.
I built a ship to collect Promethium—but needed more.
I designed a spacecraft to reach the Shattered Planet—but still, something was missing.
I wanted to expand Factorio content past the edge of the solar system, and Fall of Promethea was born.
Mod Goals
- Extend gameplay beyond the solar system’s edge with new endgame content without altering any vanilla game entities.
- Introduce new resources, manufacturing, and logistics challenges.
- Implement new mechanics, including an optional Quality progression system.
- Maintain Factorio’s balance, ensuring the mod feels like a natural progression or "Next Step" rather than a complete overhaul.
This is the first in a series of mods expanding (mainly) endgame content, based on the Prometheans—the lost civilization of the Shattered Planet.
Part 1: Shattered Foundations
- Introduces Advanced Promethium Processing, new resources with radioactive properties.
- Adds processing technologies and safety measures for handling radioactive materials.
- Establishes the foundation for future mechanics.
- Expands combat with advanced weaponry and tactical defenses.
- Introduces ships, base-building technology, and logistics optimized for deep-space operations.
- Prepares the player for the challenges ahead.
Part 2: Awakening
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/fall-of-promethea-2
- Expands combat from the planet(s) surface to space, Ship to Ship combat.
- Requires strategic ship-building to defend against enemies on hostile ships.
- Random Encounters in space while traveling between planets
- themed Planet Guardians in orbit of each planet.
- Enemy ships attack with turrets and boarding parties
- Player ships will need new design elements to combat enemy ships
Part 3: Planetary Conflict - WIP
- planetary conflicts and enemy factions wielding rival technologies.
- Requires strategic base-building and combat forces to conquer new frontiers.
- With new planets coming out all the time, I expect this will integrate closely with some new "past Aquilo" planets.
Overview
The core gameplay of this mod revolves around mining and processing Promethium Asteroids.
These asteroids hold powerful yet highly radioactive materials—materials that will damage both you and your assets if not handled properly.
In exchange for mastering these volatile elements, you will unlock powerful new technologies and weapons.
Your success depends on experimentation, innovation, and strategic safety measures.
Will you process resources on a ship, or find ways to get rare resources back to a planet? How will you deal with new Quality/Recycling chains? How much will you bring with you into the space past our Solar System Edge?
Tips:
- Test and observe how each material behaves before scaling production.
- Develop safe handling protocols to mitigate radiation hazards.
- Use the Factoriopedia for hints and guidance on manufacturing chains.
- There are benefits and drawbacks to processing resources on-site in space, rather than bringing them back to a planet.
- Some technologies can't be unlocked simply by researching. Try exploring further towards the Shattered Planet.
- Make sure auto-save is on. Trust me.
