Industrial Revolution 3 Patchset for 2.0 (Unofficial IR3) deprecated

by Shemp

Deadlock989's classic overhaul IR3 with a unique art-style and age-based progression. This is a command-line script which installs additional code and patches into the original files to make them compatible with Factorio 2.0. Requires manual assembly.

As of today (2026-05-30), it is no longer possible for me to upload new versions of the Industrial Revolution 3 Patchset to the Mod Portal. I don't know the specifics, but it must have occurred within the last month since the previous Patchset version. Attempting to do so produces this message:

Error: It is not permitted to distribute executable files with your mod. Please remove all files ending in exe, bat, ps1, sh, py. (code: 500)

It is very likely that this is the result of a deliberate change in Mod Portal policy. There are few mods on the Portal which currently package executable files in the way that the Patchset does, so I am assuming that the developers are aware of the Patchset in particular, that this change is a response, and they do not wish for the Patchset to show up in search results.

While I could upload a stripped-down version of the Patchset which excludes the scripts, it wouldn't be very useful - it would become a shell mod whose only purpose is to provide this page on the Mod Portal. If I require users to download the script from a third-party source, I may as well put the whole Patchset there.

Any new releases will now be found on the project's Codeberg page.

Since I have not yet heard any official comment from the developers, I have left this mod available on the Portal but deprecated, since I cannot delete it. All of the old releases are still here, with 1.0.4 being the latest.

I'll leave this Discussion board open as well, but Codeberg will be the preferred avenue for bug reports. I don't particularly like it when mod authors close Discussions; since all Factorio players should have an account to download from the Portal, it's the easiest place to post bugs.

Thanks again to those of you who stuck with the Patchset since the early days and helped me fix lots of bugs. :)

(Obviously, if it was Wube's wish to erase the mod, they have had the power and the right to do so for a long time.)
