g My experience (great!)

Hey, great mod! I just wanted to share how it went for me.

I really enjoyed the start on Lignumis. I was most proud of my design that got seed and peat into the ag tower and products out while only blocking 2 tiles from farming. I think a tileable design would be better for wood, but let me get great use of the gold patches. I enjoyed how much biproduct handling there was, really adding a bit of a more natural feel to it. The steam assembler unlock felt pretty meaningful, although really the burner inserters and burner ag towers felt like the real sources of burner pain.

Things really took a turn when I hit Nauvis. I hadn't looked at the tech tree, so I figured all I needed was to jumpstart my burner phase, then I could continue on Nauvis as normal. I loaded up a bit of wood and wood accessories just in case, but mostly I loaded up burner miners, stone furnaces, and belts. I landed somewhere surrounded completely by desert... I set up my furnaces, quickly had my yellow belt of iron, coal, and copper, and proceeded to get immediately consumed by biters. OK, fine, I'll just build some ammo -- that requires wood?! At the very least, maybe iron gun turrets firing wood ammo will work? Nope, neither for defense nor killing the nests. I'm sure there was a way to pull this off, but I decided to do something else. I dropped down to 6 iron stone furnaces, 3 of copper, and just enough coal. I started hand feeding wood processing into my steam assemblers, and began growing a forest. After planting my way up to about 200 trees, I switched over to stockpiling yellow ammo. Finally, with real guns, I could kill the nearby nests and scale back up. After a few hours of this, I automated wood production and red science, as well as turned my desert into a small forest. Pretty memorable experience.
Being able to terraform from the beginning is a pretty appealing reason to keep this mod through the rest of space age. However, I decided to drop it from my modded planets run, as needing wood for basic supplies doesn't really fit the vision of this run for me. I want the new planets to have contained difficulty but broad rewards. -- I just now checked the settings, and found that it's not too late to disable progressive recipes. Is there anything else you think I should do to contain lignumis complexity mostly on that moon?

Anyway, thanks for the mod! I've enjoyed it so far.

Hey, nice to hear that. In my experience, the basic turrets are enough to clear a small nest. You are the second one to tell me it's not possible. I wonder if there's something different due to another mod or if the experience is just shitty (which it should).

Since you already found the settings, there is not more I can suggest. I added them exactly for people like you.

Have fun!

Thanks! I wouldn't say it was impossible, but I didn't think it would be practical given my lack of wood. Thinking back, since wood was the limit and not iron, I'm not sure why I thought I needed to use wood ammo instead of upgrading it? I'm not just not used to runs where biters are a difficult challenge.
