Here be circuits!
Combinator experience is pretty much required to use this mod!
This mod is a complete overhaul of how nuclear power is generated. Reactors are now big, dangerous, complicated, and FUN!
Steps to construct a reactor:
- Choose nuclear fuel (inspect heat generation / power / efficiency curves)
- Lay out rod pattern (fuel rods, control rods, moderator rods)
- Design cooling (reactors can't just stop producing heat, there's always at least a little!)
- Design circuit controls for your rods
- Profit!
If this seems daunting, be sure to check out the in-game formula explorer! It explains how everything works in detail for your reading pleasure.
Important Concepts:
Light reading for anyone considering downloading:
Fuel rods
- Fuel rods cast "flux" in the four cardinal directions. Fuel rods inside this raycast then absorb this "flux" to produce more "flux".
Control rods
- Control rods damp flux. Their insertion setting determines how the flux is changed, a setting of 1 means no flux goes through, a setting of 0 means all flux goes through.
Moderator rods
- "Flux" comes in two flavors: slow and fast. Different fuels want different speeds, but most want slow and output fast. To convert all this useless fast into delicious slow you can use a moderator rod. Depending on their conversion factor, the "flux" passing through them has it's speed changed. If a moderator has a factor of 80%, 80% of the fast flux is converted to slow.
Flux
- Flux is a gamified version of real neutron flux, a measure of how many neutrons are passing through a certain cross section. In CYR, flux determines how much power fuel rods make. If a rod takes in 2nS (slow flux) it will output (depending on the fuel, but usually 2.5)x the input, leading to an output of 5n. Of course, some is slow and some is fast, so in reality it outputs 4.5nF and 0.5nS.
Meltdowns
- When a fuel rod hits 2500c it melts down, destroying the entire reactor, breaking the caps off of all other fuel rods, and generally causing a headache for anyone nearby.
Compatability
Not compatible with any nuclear tech mods currently out. Subject to change.
Thanks to OwnlyMe for the mod Realistic Reactors Reborn, the cooling tower from it was used in this mod.
