Configurable Nukes & ICBMs


Makes most/many aspects of the atomic bomb configurable, and affected by quality, as well as allows for the weaponization of rocket-silos: introduces an atomic warhead, ICBMs (Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles), IPBMs (Interplanetary Ballistic Missiles), and ISBMs (Interstellar Ballistic Missiles): why shouldn't rocket-silo rockets be used offensively?

Hi,

I love this mod; it's simple and clean, with no fancy new stuff that changes or maybe even worsens everything. Since it's easily adjustable through the settings, it's perfect <3

The mod also works great with the two mods "Safety Nuke Launcher" & "Mushroom Cloud Reborn."

Could you please add a few more options?

For example:

- An option to increase the cost of building a nuclear missile — that would feel more "balanced" A nuclear missile that's 3-4 times more powerful should also be 3-4 times more expensive. 😉

- An option for the weight of a nuclear missile, so you could decide if it can be transported to a spaceship via a rocket and how high it can be stacked. That would be awesome too.

- An option to integrate qualities to increase range, area of effect (AoE), and damage.

- And it would be really, really cool if there was an option to craft two different types of nuclear missiles and then configure them separately with their own options.

    - For example, a tactical nuclear missile that's fired only with the "small rocket launcher" (just like in vanilla now).

    - And a strategic nuclear missile that would be needed as a warhead for the space rocket to be fired similarly to artillery (maybe even with the option for no range limit [since it would basically be an intercontinental ballistic missile] or an option for additional research to increase the range/AoE/damage with endless research <3)

Hello, happy to hear you enjoy it! I can definitely work to implement those features/ideas. Few questions, though:

  • For building costs, are you thinking of simply a multiplier of sorts for the existing recipe? Being able to define a custom recipe? Both? Something else?
  • Can definitely make the nuclear missile transportable, as well as configure the stack settings
  • Quality affecting them is something I've also had in the back of my mind; didn't think of increasing the range though, I like it
  • As far as two different kinds of nuclear missiles, I like this idea - that said, are you thinking the "ICBM"s if you will, would be cargo loaded into a rocket silo, and then launched via a remote to a target on the current planet/surface? Something else? Definitely like the idea of additional infinite researches, though that is an area that would be new to me

It's great to hear that my feedback was helpful and that it will help you make the mod perfect.

Personally, I think the multiplier is a great idea, but having both sounds even better. That way, other people can tailor the mod to their own playstyle. You could make it a dropdown option: Vanilla, Multiplier, or Custom Recipe. I'm already a fan of this idea!

Your description of the ICBM is exactly what I had in mind. That way, I can clear entire areas of biters at once, but it would require a significant investment. Or I can use a tactical mini nuke myself, which costs less material, but I have to get into the fight and not just press a button.

What's important is that all the options are configurable for both variants. So if someone wants to use a powerful A-bomb, they can make it so expensive that it's worth using, but it doesn't make other weapon systems obsolete, like the artillery. And then you could just introduce a new remote with a cute little atom symbol, perfect!

I think it's also important to have an option to choose whether the nuclear missile should remain vanilla, be only an ICBM, or have both with their respective options.

Hey, just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten about this and am still planning/working on implementing these ideas - simply a combination of life, work, and my own health have slowed my progress; that, and I am rather deep into a fairly significant update for one of my other mods.

That said, the idea of using a remote to clear out entire swathes of the map with a rocket launch I find very appealing - so do not fear, I want to see these ideas implemented as well, it just might be a little bit unfortunately.
