I just spent about an hour trying to figure out how to build Waterways the first time using this mod; Thankfully I tested this in creative mode before trying it in a save. I only figured it out eventually by reading the Changelog here, where I saw the recent update from last week:

- Waterways are now accessed using a shortcut button or ‘Alt + W’ instead of a free recipe
At least for me, as someone new to this mod, this was expressed no where at all in the game itself and the Waterway button was off by default on my toolbar. (Though, even if it was on, I am sure it would have taken me a bit to find it.)
This needs to be communicated to the player in some way; I think because this change is so new it hasn't happened to many people yet.
