It might be considered weird and/or balance issue that Oil Rig supplies its own electricity, because it does so even if you equip lots of modules that increase electricity consumption, meaning that they provide themselves with too much of a free electricity. Not sure how to avoid this problem without redesigning them to consume the electricity from the grid.

Possibly make it so modules that increase electricity instead increase pollution production of the rig? Wouldn't help for peacefull worlds but its soemthing.

i just noticed, if you connect an oil rig to your electricity grid with a substation an "unknown key: "entity-name.or_power" appeare in your Electric network info

Release 0.2.3 adds a setting for the oil rig power source. It's now explicit that in the "Small generator" setting, grid power is needed for modules. You can also select "infinite" and "none" if you want full speed by magic or you want a mandatory grid connection.
