Water is not infinite

Makes water a finite resource. Uses a depth map: each water tile has a depth based on its type. Pumps drain lakes; depleted tiles become land. Refill with outfall pipes and rain

g Are oceans infinite?

Is the ocean infinite? I'm worried I'll run out after 120+ hours on nauvis as i run KS2 and SE as i am an extremely slow player.

No, they don't seem to be infinite. It is a bit of an issue at this moment so I'd recommend trying to get ice from space age as soon as possible for infinite water

No, the ocean isn't infinite. And every pump only draws water within a radius of 50 tiles.

But I've thought about making very large ponds infinite. Maybe it would make sense to do so

Something like the create mod for minecraft where there is a pump that allows you to get infinite water from big enough sources sounds great, right now I am using a water well mod and acting like that's how it works.

I concur, ponds past a certain size should be infinite. Perhaps make it a toggle for those who dont need it but i know i'd use it 24/7.

no no don't do that, well, only with the option to turn it on and off, I also play slowly, I don't see any problems

That's an interesting point. Could you please tell me why you want to use this mod if you prefer having infinite water? Maybe just to dry small ponds?

I also had another idea: if the water in the ocean were infinite, it might be salty, and it would take some processing to extract fresh water from it. What do you think?

I agree with this statement. Thats another reason I want small ponds to be finite and ocean/giant bodies of water to be infinite. It makes it less of a timer counting down and more of a resource management.

Fresh water is precious and there to help you start out, but use it all up and you have to worry about water treatment and etc. therefore it rewards you for being careful with your water usage but punishes you for being greedy If that makes sense.

Yeah that would be a really good mechanic, then you'd have a choice that actually matters just might make issues with other planet mods that add planets with water, cause how do you tell if it's salty or fresh?

Probally best way would be to make any pump pickup water as salty if its past X size. doesnt matter if its on another planet as its just a size check.

Yes, it's possible that this idea has a right to exist if we use the Cargo Ships mod, but then we need to make the disadvantages in this mechanic, for example, I have Water consumes pollution, and if the process of extracting water from the ocean had a counterbalance to this mod, it would be good. It's strange that the mod is designed to destroy liquid, and now we're trying to save it...

I would like to ask you to consider the topic Make Lava on Vulcanus also Finite, which I think is more interesting.

Yeah, it really does look a bit controversial :) but it's important to keep things balanced

As for finite lava, that’s not really what this mod is about. But I might come back to that idea later

It's motly just just an issue for us insane people who use super long duration overhauls. Thanks for the rain btw.

It was my pleasure! Maybe next time I'll do something about the oceans
