In this Factorio prequel, you're an android terraforming planets and seeding them with life. Replaces all recipes and technology. No life means no coal, oil, wood, biters, or free oxygen, requiring varied renewable energy sources. For reliability, you'll focus on abundant elements from the air, sea, or common minerals such as iron ore, bauxite, sandstone, and calcite. Advanced technology enables asteroid mining of rarer elements.

g Compressed nitrogen checkpoint

How do you pass the "Checkpoint: Energy storage utilization" checkpoint that requires you to "Consume 1000 Compressed nitrogen"? Venting doesn't count, and all other methods of consuming compressed nitrogen are in higher technologies that depend on this checkpoint.

Consider the name of the checkpoint and the tech prerequisite for it. It's not called "Checkpoint: nitrogen utilization". Did you do the previous energy storage checkpoint, or did you update after you were past that tech?

Make sure you look at the tooltips for the fluids, buildings, items, etc. They have useful and necessary information.

Of course I did "Energy storage 2", it's how I'm able to produce compressed nitrogen with a compressor in the first place to know that venting compressed nitrogen doesn't count, nor does filling a tank with it. I suspect there is a bug.

I'm asking if you did the previous energy storage checkpoint, the one with steam. It's not a given, because checkpoints were added recently, so it depends on how long ago you started. You may have skipped past that if you started a while ago. It's solved exactly like the steam checkpoint was, which was also labeled as an energy storage checkpoint, not a steam checkpoint. This is exactly like that one.

It's not a bug. I understand what you're saying, but I think there are some descriptions of fluids or buildings that you need to read more closely. Such as the compressed nitrogen fluid tooltip information. Or the tooltips of the buildings in the tech immediately preceding the checkpoint. You don't have descriptions disabled by the Interface option or a third party mod, I'm assuming? Most checkpoints are named after the material, not the technology that unlocks it. That technology is not irrelevant.

The compressed gases have a field in their description that most fluids don't, but one other fluid does. The first sentence of the description of an important energy storage building is worded very precisely.

I see, you have to send it through a turbine. I would like to suggest some kind of improvement in the tooltips to make this more explicit. Currently, one has to make the link that "Compressed" = "Pressurized". The real world rarely maps onto the game world, and the game is full of abstractions and the rules and analogies that do work have to be made explicit to the player. This is even mentioned in the FAQ pertaining to the pressure system: "This system is just an abstraction that isn't meant to refer to a fixed amount of real world pressure."
Anyway, thoroughly enjoying the mod!

OK. I was thinking about that. Some people have gone the whole game without realizing that in the past, before checkpoints. The checkpoint is partially to make sure that they don't have an opportunity to miss it. But since it was recently added it has come to a head where people may get stuck and not figure it out. I'm also adding more information about the purpose of compressed gas to the compressor description, and fixing the missing description on the surge variant. And I'm planning to change the background of the icon for the 2 energy storage checkpoints from a barrel to a turbine.

That sounds like a good solution, and will hopefully make the players ask themselves why the checkpoint has a turbine icon. Players already know how to consume steam from the base game, but the compressed gas is new. If the addition to the compressor description is sufficiently clarifying, an extra tip could be added to the checkpoint directly: "Consume 1000 Compressed nitrogen (💧). A turbine can be used."

The latest update has more information in compressors and turbines, and the icon change on the checkpoints.
