I have figured out that all you need to do is go into the files of metal and stars (the main mod), you will find it in the appdata>roaming>factorio>mods
Open it, go to "prototypes", "entity" and then the first "prototype-mech-armor-animations.lua"
Now you need to remove the bottom two lines,
"table.insert"...
"data.raw"...
Now I am absolutely against infringing on the rights of 5forsilver as they have and will always own this game and I ain't fully sure if this is legal but it's a fix, a bandaid fix as it will break the death animations and sprites in that armor but it at least will allow for you to play with a custom character in this game.
