Can the routes between Stargates be toggled on and off? I believe hiding the routes would better fit the Stargate's concept, as displaying them makes the Stargates look like some kind of space highway.
I don't think that there's an easy way to do that - if you find an example of one, let me know and I'll add it as an option.
I think we can make an ancient civilization Stargate activation device to teleport between Stargates, but it needs to be charged to activate the Stargate and can only teleport between Stargates.
