ME Network

by Rykon_

An ME storage network inspired by Applied Energistics 2: cables, a controller, drives with storage cells that keep their contents, a terminal, interfaces, import, export and storage buses, autocrafting with encoded patterns and crafting CPUs, level maintainers, and fluids. Works on its own with vanilla recipes; Gregtorio Continued puts it on its GregTech tiers. Source and issues: https://github.com/Rykon00/me-network

  1. ME Pattern Provider P2P Tunnel
Would it be possible to introduce a Pattern Provider P2P Tunnel?

If you've played the modpack Nova Engineering - World, you might know it features a similar mechanic. A Pattern Provider P2P tunnel allows a single Pattern Provider to distribute crafting recipes across multiple machines in a 1-to-many setup. This is incredibly useful for factory automation and large-scale line balancing.

While the current workaround is setting up multiple Pattern Providers with identical patterns hooked up to separate machines, having a dedicated P2P tunnel type for providers would make factory expansion and remote routing much cleaner and more convenient.

  1. Molecular Assembler Mechanics & Machine Modules
Regarding the Molecular Assembler: currently, crafting speeds and mechanics are fairly static (in contrast to some tech progression curves where early assemblers have lower baseline speeds like 0.5x, while the Molecular Assembler jumps straight to 2.5x).

Have you considered allowing players to insert specific machine modules/blocks directly into the Molecular Assembler to expand its capabilities? For example, inserting specialized machinery (like an Electromagnetic Factory or a Smeltery/Forge block from DLC/content addons) could transform the Assembler into that machine—adopting its specific recipes, crafting speed, and power consumption. Without a machine inserted, the Assembler slot wouldn't function on its own.

And since the Molecular Assembler is already here... any chance we'll ever see the Assembly Matrix form factor return? (laughs)

Thanks for the suggestions!

  1. Pattern Provider P2P: yes, this is coming. I'll follow GTNH's AE2 here rather than adding a provider-only tunnel: item and fluid P2P tunnels with frequencies. A pattern provider with an input tunnel on one of its sides treats the machines at all output tunnels of that frequency as its targets and spreads its jobs over them, just as it does today with the machines on its four neighbouring tiles. So one provider with one set of patterns can feed a whole line. Tracked here: https://github.com/Rykon00/me-network/issues/629

  2. Machines inside the Molecular Assembler: I won't do this one. In Factorio a machine's recipe categories, speed and power use are fixed in its prototype, so "turning" the assembler into an Electromagnetic Plant or a Foundry would need a hidden copy of the assembler for every machine of every mod (and their quality, modules and bonuses). You already get the same result without that: put a Pattern Provider next to the real machine. It runs the machine's own recipes with its own speed, productivity and modules. The Molecular Assembler stays what it is in AE2, the crafting table replacement. Its speed can be raised with Acceleration Cards (+80 % each, up to 5), and overhauls like Gregtorio set its numbers for their own progression.

Assembly Matrix: no plans. ME Network follows GTNH's AE2, which has the 1x1 Molecular Assembler and no matrix.

Would it be possible to allow custom energy drain adjustments in the configuration files, or expose hooks in the code to modify the power consumption of specific machines?

I am planning to rebalance the energy costs in my setup:
• Quantum Bridge (Quantum Entangled Network): 1 G
• Wireless: 10 M
