Cargo Ships: Fishing Trawler
Adds a Fishing Trawler ship for Cargo Ships with dual placement behavior:
- Place it on a waterway to create the rail ship version.
- Place it off-waterway to keep it as an independent boat.
The mod adds a dedicated fishing vessel designed for automated fish harvesting on waterways, with manual hotkeys, buoy automation, baiting support, circuit control, runtime tuning, and trawler net range upgrades.
Main Features
Dual placement behavior
The Fishing Trawler uses Cargo Ships placement logic:
- On waterways, it becomes the rail-based trawler that follows Cargo Ships routes.
- Outside waterways, it stays as an independent boat.
This makes it useful both for structured shipping lanes and for more flexible local use.
Fishing net control
The trawler can deploy and retract its fishing net:
- Press
Fto toggle the net manually. - Place a net buoy on a waterway to toggle the net automatically when the trawler passes it.
- When the net is deployed, the trawler slows down according to a runtime setting.
- Fish crossing the active net are caught and added directly to the trawler inventory.
Baiting system
The trawler can also spread bait to attract fish toward its route:
- Press
Hto start or stop baiting. - Place a bait buoy on a waterway to toggle baiting automatically when the trawler passes it.
- Baiting consumes raw fish from the trawler inventory while active.
- Fish are gradually pulled toward the baited route instead of teleporting instantly.
- Baited route segments are rendered visually on the water and expire after a limited time.
Fish breeding from bait
Fish attracted to the baited route can reproduce:
- Bait-based fish breeding is configurable in runtime settings.
- The breeding effect can be set from 10% to 300%.
- This allows baiting to act not only as attraction, but also as a way to increase fish population near your route.
Circuit Network Support
All buoys added by this mod can be controlled by the red or green wire network.
When a buoy is connected to the circuit network:
F > 0toggles fishing / net operationH > 0toggles baiting
This works with any buoy from this mod, regardless of whether it is the net buoy or bait buoy item.
That means you can:
- automate start/stop fishing from combinators,
- automate start/stop baiting from logic circuits,
- build route control systems based on signals, timers, storage levels, or train-like scheduling logic.
Without a wire connection, buoys keep their normal default behavior when the trawler passes them.
Runtime Settings
The mod includes configurable runtime settings for:
- damage alerts,
- net slowdown after deployment,
- bait pull count,
- bait pull speed,
- bait fish breeding percent.
These settings allow you to tune the trawler for gameplay balance, automation style, or performance preferences.
Technologies
The mod includes a chain of net range technologies:
- 10 trawler range upgrades,
- each level increases net span by 10%,
- up to +100% total net span.
This increases the effective fishing width of the trawler and improves harvesting efficiency over time.
