Subsurface - build beneath your base!

by Natha

While everyone is looking up to space, other planets and the rest of the universe, there is a whole world buried directly underneath us. Use this opportunity to declutter your factory logistics by routing it under your base and explore the underground!

b Ore Vein Yield

Is this mod supposed to change surface ore values? When I add it to my existing game, it changes the ore values to whatever I set it to, to the minimum at 17% Took me a bit to figure out it was this mod.

Yes it is

Hmm, is there a way to stop it?

I really like this mod, I use it to put all my betls and pipes underground, but I play with rail world ore settings, so that change makes my world unplayable.

There is a setting that disabled challenges which prevents ore vein manipulation. But there won't be any ores underground anymore

Hmm, I will think about it, not sure if I care or TBH. Is this new? I used it in my last play, though, and didn't notice it. I did add it after I started, so maybe that is the cause.

I added this setting about a year ago, so not really new

Hmm, maybe because I was mining so far out, I didn't notice, I guess.

Ohhh i play railworld as well and was wondering why my starter patches seemed oddly thin. Perhaps separate each of the challenges into their own check box, or at least the ore part. As playing railworld with the same settings as subsurface gives is impractical. Let alone if you do like a railworld+ custom setting.

Either that or have a railworld toggle for it that adjusts setting to better suit railworld.

EDIT: I personally recommend just making toggles to make it compatible with other world types like void block or sea block.

With no resources in the underground, I don't see why you would need the other challenges as you don't expand further than your base

You can also still have your rail world and mine resources in the underground layers too and send them to the top where the trains are.

I meant the lower yields being disabled or well controlling the surface yields. Currently how you have it the above surface yields dont change when set to railworld. Meaning you have to expand way more often and WAY further out in order to keep a steady flow of resources. Going underground is a solution, but with how often one needs to change spots and how far you have to travel, its not viable to go deeper until you get further out or a stable enough throughput. As by the time you get deeper patches setup in full you'd need to move on to keep up throughput since most the surface ores will have shrunk and reduced throughput. Which becomes problem when this involves all ores.

EDIT: don't know how to strike this, but noticed that you adjusted the starting patches which may have been the issue i was talking about abovr

As for the other challenges, they help balance out using the underground. Without them its free stone and easy space. On void block for example, the moment i got the underground i quickly increased my land space by 1000 fold, and would have doubled the space if i had not left challenges on and needed to worry about pollution. Then the fact i had access to ores meant i could just ignore the void block's challenge all together.

Without challenges you can just place your entire base underground and never worry about biters outside of possibly surface mining posts, which once you hit oil are trivial to defend.

Which is why i suggested letting each challenge be its own toggles, so people can pick and choose what they want based on what their playing. Could even split the ore challenge into 2 toggles. one being the forced yield numbers, and the second being having ore underground at all.

I'm currently mining below or even past- my starting ore vein but I haven't found any subsurface ore. Am I missing something? I'm playing with a few mods, one of them adds ore deposits on water tiles, I did not touch my ore values but did adjust slightly my crude oil values, decreasing the scale but increasing the sizes of them. not by much- a single pip but, I don't see any ore down here at all. All my starting ores are next to each other on a generated map, not one I created.

Most of the ores mirror to the subsurface on the same position. But there is a map settings that disables ore generation in subsurfaces at all

Oh boy. Where is the setting exactly? I looked through everywhere and I can't seem to find the setting.

Oh boy. Where is the setting exactly? I looked through everywhere and I can't seem to find the setting.

UPDATE: So upon restarting the map with default map settings, I still have no subsurface ore under my resources. I'm starting to believe that somehow, the dredge works mod somehow stops the game from generating underground resources. unless its the alien terrain mod- but thats just cosmetic. which is upsetting, because thats the whole selling point for me on this mod. While yes I can make a resource hold under my base and get a lot of stone, I was hoping to get underground nodes too.

Another update: Disabled dredgeworks and alien biomes, and it still isn't spawning subsurface ores. I am so confused on what could possibly be doing this.

Its in mod settings - per map and called something like "disable challenges"

for some reason it was disabled by default. Huh- Do I have to restart or can I wait for a new cell to generate? Cause I spent three days on this world mothballing tech from a very small furnace setup and really was looking forward to working with subsurface minerals and things like that.

Yes just dig further and there will be resources

Could this mod still be affecting stone generation even after I disable challenges? Because my world isn't generating stone much at all.

So I confirmed, by removing the mod, even with challenges disabled. It's still messing with surface stone generation. Unlike before, it's not changing the generation settings. It's just blocking the stone from spawning altogether.

Ah fuck, youre right. Fixed that
