There is no way, or at least I do not see one, to automate even simples things - Transport Belt for a long time. I already have 15 tech researched and still can't make belts, that is very basic thing, because I need lumber boards for green chips, that are kinda deep.
I'd say beginning techs should be modified some way, or allow to craft some items, like mentioned above boards in normal assembly with less speed.
Because currently it's unplayable without item creation via console. Else it become just too boring to wait for manual craft.

Or if you prefer to keep exiting tree, it will be good to add to broken shuttle inventory bigger startup kit, of some T1 belts, assemblers and maybe a few other things. To allow to build basic factory setup. To continue produce those basic elements. Without too much manual crafting, and without boring courier part of moving parts across assemblers by hands for a while.

look for wood logistic since some add wood base belts. Also the burner phase for burner assemble. Also https://mods.factorio.com/mod/basic-robots-f2 (i take no credit) it's amazing for this mod because you can just untick logistic bots (aka not make it to easy) and have access to construction bots adding automation very early and i don't about other people but i play factorio for automation and not manually build every last thing. Also personal roboport and also the option to not have roboport if that is to much for you. Ideea is that i really like this mod because it really adds the basic with no complication that spagetorio mod adds (aka takes ages to unlock basic stuff).
