What if lightning rods took damage, or consumed repair packs, or something? This would provide a real threat to all of your production backing up and repair packs (or something) no longer being produced would mean you start losing lightning rods, then power, then your base as a whole. Similar sort of existential threat as Nauvis has with the biters.
