HelicopterRevival


Adds a fully animated attack helicopter to the game. Ideal for getting from A to B quickly, exploring the map, building islands and nuking biters from the sky. Originally forked from Kumpu with fixes for Factorio 0.18.2+, but adding some enhancements of my own as well.

I've made a (mostly graphical) contribution to this great mod (in the form of a pull request), you can see my changes here:

  • New (hd) icons (technologies, items, equipment).
  • Shifting shadow to the right as helicopter rises (like other entities).
  • Added custom map icon.
  • New mod icon.
  • Helicopter is slightly more contrasted.
  • Centered alert icon.
  • Optimized PNG to gain space. (For info, compression was done losslessly with PNGGauntlet)
    For info, I've been modding for almost a year now, and contributed to a good number of mods, so I don't think I've broken anything, but if something isn't at your taste, feel free to ask me to change it !

Hi.
Thanks for your contribution! This stuff looks really great, but there's something I wanted... I wanted to change that anti-material rifle with something that would mount under the helicopter, and not be a representation of a physical gun... Maybe like a turret or something? Dunno...

Also, I'll try to sharpen some of those images that were resized from low res... Those never turn out well :/
But stuff had been merged into testing...

I'm planning to add / fix some more stuff before release, though.

Hey hi, glad you liked it !
-For the gun, no problem, I can work on something !
-For the low res, if you want, I can work on upscaling entities to hr, using a process I've been using on robotarmy, and soon aircraft (this week I worked on a script to overcome the hardware limitation of upscaling large animations with ESRGAN, the AI upscale program I'm mainly using), so I could use this process on helicopters too if you think it looks good (it's the best process I found, short of re-rendering)
-Note that at one point, I tried to add player color to the helicopter camo, but 1) It didn't look good and 2) it didn't take apply_runtime_tint into account, despite me changing the force of that particular entity in a script, and I think it's because it's an entity with force and not an entity with owner... But it didn't look very good anyway, so whatever.

I have a long weekend starting tomorrow, so I could have some time for all that :)

I'm in the process of making the helicopter hr, like I did on https://mods.factorio.com/mod/Aircraft, and almost done with that!
Would you mind adding me as contributor on the mod portal? I wanted to re-write the description, update images, sort threads... You can see some of that on https://mods.factorio.com/mod/Aircraft (just released an update for that !) or https://mods.factorio.com/mod/team_competition
