Freight Forwarding

A small overhaul with a focus on long-distance logistics variety. Transport containerized items across land and sea using trains and ships! First, venture to the edge of your starting island using trains to find lead, then set sail for offshore oil using tanker ships, dredge metallic nodules from the seabed, and recover titanium from other islands. Finally you'll be transporting materials to faraway lava pools to smelt titansteel, an essential ingredient in rocket parts.

g Did something change that makes LTN act strange?

1 year, 7 months ago

Good day X

Is it possible that the last update changed something that makes LTN act strange? At first I thought I had messed up the logistics network, but after observing the trains for a while, it's quite clear that LTN makes all kinds of mistakes and does illogical things.

The two main problems are that some trains no longer show the "extra stop" that gets inserted into the schedule to prevent mistakes with stations that have the same name. The result is that those trains make mistakes with stations that have the same name, trying to pick up good where there are none, or delivering at the wrong spot.
Another issue is that LTN seems to (sometimes) mishandle the amount of goods available at stations. In that case multiple trains arrive at a station trying to pick up goods that the first train already took.

I have not yet checked whether this behavior also occurs on LTN maps without Freight Forwarding. I will return with that information.

Maybe you have an idea what could be causing this.
Thanks.

Hello, I'm afraid that I've never used LTN before so I can't help you with this. I'm not aware of changing anything that would cause it either.

Thanks for the quick response.
If there's nothing that points in that direction, I will do some more testing and report back with my findings.
It would be a shame if you had to put LTN on the list of non-compatible mods.

Obviously the problem can lie with LTN itself, but that mod didn't update for a while now and FF did. Hence me asking here first.

LTN is a great mod btw. I would highly recommend it, were it not that if you don't have the right blueprints at hand it's more of a pain in the arse than a game asset. It makes the Factorio trains behave like trains in the classic Transport Tycoon Deluxe, where they are parked at a depot and get called by stations in need of resources. That same principle has apparently been applied to the Cargo Ships mod, which makes quite a nice combined experience for Freight Forwarding. It would be a shame if all of that LTN fun stopped working, so I'll dig deep to see if I can find out what's going on.

From what I've seen, Project Cybersyn is a lot easier to learn and use than LTN, although it doesn't have proper Cargo Ships support. Personally I prefer to manage the trains myself, with the help of Train Groups and Train Control Signals.
