Do you think you could add support for different Spidertrons such as https://mods.factorio.com/mod/spidertron-extended without hardcoding anything?

That would be very nice. Perhaps it could be set up something like how FARL has a module you can put in the grid?

Would be great if there was a 1x1 antenna module that could turn any spidertron, vanilla or modded, into a constructron. Another idea is to link remotes with service stations, and set any spidertron linked to the remote as a constructron.

This is currently not really feasible since there is no performant way to figure out which entity has that new custom equipment equipped.

Additionally, the mod is targeted to be non-game-changing.

What does this mean, the mod already adds the service stations, it's already game-changing.

The term "non-game-changing" with mods is a bit difficult to define but iirc the base thought was that we just want to have automated spidertrons to do construction / deconstruction / etc and not change anything really (tho I think we are moving away from that a bit with some potentially coming features).

Aside from all of this: we are currently in the process of figuring out how we would want to add support for other spidertron types in a way that doesn't require us to do all the compatibility work for each of the spidertron type mods.

I already see some mods that appear to modify the behavior of some vehicle depending on a piece of equipment on their grid!

The equipment could set a property/status effect on its owner to mark when it's equipped/unequipped.

Both FARL and Spidertron Logistics have equipment that alter their behavior, so I think it should be possible, just cache the results of the check, perhaps? I don't think most players would mind taking a few seconds for it to update if you wanted to spread out the checks.

Or maybe this mod could just look trough every spidertron type entity added and make a constructron version duplicate with the same stats as the copied spidertron.

Any progress on this? or is it a non-starter?
