Smogbound turns factory pollution into direct survival pressure. The engineer
must breathe the atmosphere their industry creates, making filtration,
reclamation, and clean-air infrastructure part of factory progression rather
than optional pollution reduction.

Survive your own factory

Local Air measures what the engineer is breathing. Prolonged exposure builds
Toxic Load and eventually creates serious danger.

Legacy progression

The Legacy Ledger tracks accomplishments and force score.

Build a Legacy Chamber to archive the current run, invest permanent Legacy
Marks into Adaptation, Filtration, or Reclamation, and begin a harder successor
frontier with inherited specialization.

Legacy progression can be exported and imported through checksummed Legacy
Codes.

Smogbound models industrial pollution exposure. It does not simulate vacuum or
general oxygen.

Optional Golden Age integrations

Golden Age and Golden Age: Mechbound integrations are optional. Smogbound is a
complete standalone mod when neither is installed.

Orbital Life Support

Space Age Expansion

When Space Age is installed, space platforms require a functioning oxygen supply for engineers physically aboard them.

Space Age remains optional. Without it, Smogbound continues to function as a complete standalone pollution-survival mod.

Orbital Life Support is designed as a platform logistics system rather than a constantly managed personal oxygen meter.

Build the oxygen chain
Manufacture reusable Empty Oxygen Cylinders.
Fill them with water and electricity using Oxygen Separators.
Transport Compressed Oxygen Cylinders to space.
Feed them into powered Platform Life-Support Units.
Monitor reserve time, crew demand, power, and redundancy.
Return empty cylinders for refilling.
Add atmospheric recycling for longer voyages.

Normal-quality Compressed Oxygen Cylinders provide ten engineer-minutes of breathing supply. Higher-quality cylinders store more oxygen.

Shared Platform Atmosphere

Every eligible engineer physically aboard a platform shares the same life-support network.

Oxygen demand scales with crew size:

One engineer consumes one share of oxygen.
Three engineers consume three shares.
Disconnected players and remote viewers consume nothing.
Multiple Life-Support Units provide additional storage and redundancy.

Atmospheric Monitors switch to an orbital signal profile and report:

Loaded platform oxygen
Current oxygen demand
Estimated reserve time
Crew aboard
Online Life-Support Units
Recycling efficiency
Emergency state

Reserve estimates count oxygen already loaded into registered Life-Support Units.

Commissioning Air

New and upgraded platforms receive a short, one-time commissioning grace period when first occupied.

This gives the crew enough time to place and connect initial life-support equipment, but it does not replace real oxygen production.

Once a powered Life-Support Unit begins supplying oxygen, commissioning air ends permanently for that platform.

Emergency Oxygen and Suffocation

When platform supply fails, Smogbound moves through a recoverable emergency sequence:

Mechbound sealed-cockpit reserves are used when supported.
Personal Clean-Air Canisters activate automatically.
The engineer holds their breath for a short grace period.
Suffocation damage begins if oxygen is not restored.

This gives the crew time to repair power, deliver more cylinders, reconnect machinery, or escape.

Clean-Air Canisters are temporary emergency reserves. They are not a replacement for platform-wide life support.
