The error happens whenever you try to load an ongoing game after changing mod setting, updating any mod to an existing game, and/or add or remove any mod from an existing game.
You can reproduce this error by:
1. Start a new game with only Planet Picker.
2. Choose any planet (I chose Vulcanus, ymmv on other planets).
3. Save game after spawning in.
4. Quit to title screen.
5. Change any mod setting in the "Startup" tab, or add any mod to the game (even harmless mods that shouldn't cause any problems like... InformaTron or Helmod).
6. Load the saved game with the new mod settings or new mod(s).
