Item Network

by y_e_a_r

This mod adds a new logistics mechanic: The Item Network. It replaces trains and logistics bots by teleporting items and fluids directly between Network Chests and Tanks.

i Stacks for liquids?

1 year, 2 months ago

How about adding the ability to change stacks for liquids? I can only request 5k of requested liquids, but what if I need more? Same for providing

Right now, the tank size is hardcoded at game startup to 5k which means it can't be changed mid-game.

I'm fine with increasing that size or adding a new tank that's larger. Before I do that I do want to confirm, do you have a use case that needs a tank with more than 5k? Would it be easier to just use 2 tanks if you need 10K of a fluid?

I have factories consuming water very quickly, which makes 5k just not enough and it doesn't have time to replenish again. Is there any possibility in the future to remove such restrictions altogether?
Yeah, the funny thing is that I'm surviving in a world where I'm trying to maximize the efficiency of the whole factory. I have a bunch of mods that add over the top factories at incredible speeds.
My factory resembles the wiring diagrams with your mod, which looks like fun

Olyosha if you have too many Item Network entities in your base it slows down the refresh rate of all the chests/tanks. My way of getting around that is increasing the request amount (chests) or adding multiple tanks. I have found using multiple tanks to handle extreme quantities of fluids works really well no matter how many Item Network entities down.

My Pyanodon base had over 5k network chests and 2k network tanks and handled 5M water demand per minute no problem. My most demanding set up used 8 network tanks to supply enough water. The network items are free and the larger pipes the mods I was using were pretty cheap it wasn't a big deal. That's 40k water at any given moment.

I'd suggest installing a larger fluid pipe mod or using one in a mod that you already have to handle the volume you need. You could always add a water source mod too. I use Dark Matter Replicators for water and oil, it also handles some of my mods items as well. I have altered the files to only allow base resources: iron, copper, stone, coal, water, oil, and whatever base materials the mods add if I can add them. It's very energy intensive though.

That's good advice to keep the number of network entities down to speed up throughput. I also made a Github issue to make a larger network tank with a size of 100K that will hopefully help in these high-throughput situations.

I currently have 26k network chest and 50k network loader and to solve the water problem I am increasing the number of network tanks. Reservoirs don't really save the situation and they have helped me very little in this regard. I currently have 2k network tanks

Yes, I went a bit overboard with the amount, but my goal with the game is to reach the limit of my comrputer's performance. I'm already at 15-20 fps and I'm waiting for the moment when it will be around 5 fps :)

One more thing - at the moment there are difficulties in massively changing the number of items in a query. I use Better ReStack and smoothly increase the quantity (lags if abruptly), and I have to change everything everywhere again, which for this scale is very difficult. I don't know what could be added to the mod to simplify it, and it hardly makes sense either
