Interpose Planner

by percieo

This planner turns a sparse blueprint with marked input and output ports into a fully populated production layout. Works like how PCBs are designed. Vibe coded.

FAQ

Latest info always available in the GitLab in HOWTO-INTERPOSE-MANUAL.md 👈 find FAQ there.

Does it make me the best efficient design?

No. But good enough since it works - it wont aim for perfect custom designs. It adds rows of "machine blocks" as a recipe require.
Bottleneck of most designs (for now..) is some intermediate ingredient saturating a one-lane belt.

Can it produce entities not in standard factorio? (e.g. another mod)

Yes in theory. It goes from first principles using in-game data, and designs are not pre-described in any way.

Can it do fluids?

~No, maybe soon.~ Features just arrived in 0.3.x updates.. feedback welcome.

What problem does this mod solve?

Building a factory block by hand means working out how many machines a recipe needs, placing them,
and running every belt so items arrive where they are needed and never mix. Interpose does that for
you: you mark where the ingredients come in and where the product goes out (the ports), drag over an
area, and it places the machines, inserters, belts, splitters, undergrounds and power poles, with
the right number of machines for the rate you want.

Does this mod use AI?

No. Running the mod does not use or need AI at all: it is ordinary Lua code that runs in your game,
the same every time. AI (Claude) assisted the developer in designing and building the planner's
algorithms, and especially in writing the automated tests that check every layout in the real game.
