Diurnal Dynamics

Make nights pitch black, customise the lengths of day/night cycles, enable night only attacks and darken space platforms/distant planets as they get further from the sun! All configurable.

i Illuminating darker distant planets

I really like the option which limits daylight on planets distant from the sun. However during nights, lamp lights shine weaker, too. This is notable on Fulgora for example. I guess that's because the maximum brightness is set to a lower value globally?
I think it should be possible to light up distant places with lamps, just as on Nauvis or Vulcanus. They are the same lamps with the same power after all.

Daytime illumination is another subject I thought about: Enable lamps emitting light halos during the day, too, if the surface is too dark.

The planet's surface basically has one of x different overlays on to create the darker effect. The downside as you've noticed is it does apply to the entire surface, including actual lights!

It might be possible to lessen the impact on the lamps by making a more precise LUT but it's not my area of expertise and I'm not optimistic.

I did previously explore an option where I manipulated the time of day to skip over varying amounts of the day, this lets lamps work properly but has other side effects...

Oh and I believe I already have settings to tune when lamps turn on/off, but I don't think it can be done per planet.

I'll look into it again, thanks for the report!

Thanks for the response. I understand that it's tricky.

Having a LUT respect lamp location will likely hurt performance, especially when one starts lighting up vast areas. Considering this, I also thought of tinkering with the time of day as you described. What are the side effects of this, precisely?

I haven't been to Aquilo yet. I assume the behaviour will become an issue there to the point that I'll turn the "distant dimming" off for good.

As for now on Fulgora, I imagine the winds to be raising dust which is obscuring the view ;)
