I love the idea, I always wondered why belts can run without power :-).

  • If the belt is turned off its still showing 'working' with a green icon when clicking on a belt
  • I only see an indicator that i need another belt engine when placing a belt. It would be nice to see the engine struggle or giving an error when its not sufficient enough anymore.
  • It would be nice when hovering over a belt to see that info also about how many belt pieces the current engine can work with
  • Another idea could also be that placing not enough engines makes the belt not stop but move slower
  • Or make the load of the belt count instead of the length how many engines you need

Hi, thanks. Here are some responses to your ideas (not all final):

  • I think I can implement this, though access to entity tooltips from the modding API is almost non-existent.
  • A separate animation of the engine struggling would be hard to implement, but I can add warning messages (those that show near the hotbar and on the map) that engines can't drive the belt section.
  • I have plans to implement some kind of info display, but how it will work and look is still in the research stage.
  • Cool idea — it's possible to make belts move slower instead of stopping, but if we want all three states (or more: stopped, slow, normal), that would introduce state management and take time to implement.
  • If I understand correctly and you mean accounting for belt content (items that are on the belts), it would be almost impossible to implement, because it would require checking the belt content every tick—that would kill performance.

Thank you for the response! I hope you find the time to implement this. I’m looking forward to it.
