The mod talks about configurable valves, but the actual configurable item is the pump instead. This confused me a lot since the mod description is all about the configurability of the valve instead. Can the mod description be updated to say it is the pump that is configurable?

In your bug description your not mentioning that you're playing with the massive Nullius overhaul. There the Nullius mod hides my valve entities, and instead uses the functionality on the pump entities. I will make a small note to at least mention that.
