🌐Khemia: Age of Alchemy

Khemia is a barren planet, with strange energies pulsing below the sand. Here, you must harness the power of Alchemy: Breaking materials down into magical energy and reconstructing them. Glyphs act as pipes, allowing you to transport energy, but placing them is often more art than science. As your factory grows, connecting glyphs becomes a unique puzzle. Alchemy also unlocks useful new tech, like spoilage-preventing brine tanks, massive cargo cranes, and surface-to-orbit teleportation.

My thoughts:

The good:

  • What caught my eye to download it in the first place were the glyphs and monument graphics.
  • I enjoyed the main mechanic of having to use the available shapes to get the fluids to where they need to go, forces you to plan ahead.
  • Nice references to alchemy

The not-so-good:

  • Planet is too plain! Needs more decoratives, otherwise it's just pointless empty space. Might as well put the Monument on Nauvis...
  • No descriptions of any kind on items, Factoriopedia, tech tree. No Khemia briefing, no flavor text, no introduction. We're supposed to figure everything out just from the recipes? And is there no story to the Monument? Feels unfinished.
  • Half of the tech tree is pointless. Once you get Alchemy science, it's just a matter of waiting for everything to get unlocked. Usually, unlocking the science pack happens at the end of the planet's progression...
  • Zero in-game instruction on how to use the Telepad or what it's for. Had to come back to the mod page to figure it out.
  • You need to build a rocket to get off the planet anyways, so they seem a bit pointless to me.
  • What are blimps for? You don't need a huge factory to get to the end of the mod.
  • The recipes seem arbitrary, you could change the names of the components and nothing would change...
  • Never really found a reason to use the advanced glyphs other than the 3x3 crossover one. Easier just to space things apart and use the simple glyphs. You got it backwards: the cheap ones should be the complicated shapes, and the simple and versatile ones should be the expensive ones. Gives you a reason to go through the trouble of making them...
  • Was kinda hoping we'd be able to use glyphs with regular fluids in other planets, just for the way they look...
  • Inconsistent graphics for the glyphs, they don't always update with the right fluid.
  • No music or sound effects? Was a little strange to play in complete silence.
  • Rewards aren't really alchemy themed

I think it has potential, though!
