On a multiplayer server with a researchable range pickup increase the normal f is shorter at the start but can be made pretty large, almost as large as the shift+f in this mode by the end pre-infinite research, however, the shift+f makes that entire research tree useless. I set the range in the options to 8 as it's the smallest option but it's too big at the beginning (making the early research useless) and too tiny later on (making the shift+f useless) and this isn't enforceable on other players so the issue still remains. In addition, the players can later get an equipment grid item that automatically marks nearby items on the ground (not belts or so) for automated deconstruction, thus making it further not useful.
Thus it would be quite nice if there was a setting to disable that functionality altogether. It would also be nice to have a way to enforce a maximum size that players may choose, such as '4' so they can still have early game item pickup without picking up off belt but it's not so overpowered.
There are a variety of cases where items can appear on the ground in this server and so having a large pickup range without substantial resource investment is actually fairly overpowered. :-)
