Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here, but when I set the startup settings to Wireless mode right away shouldn't the tech options disappear? I thought that setting meant that Wireless/Advanced mode is active right away.

The functionality will be active when the setting is set to "Basic" or "Wireless", but I did not add the code yet to check the setting and hide the technology when it changes. It simply ignores whether or not you have researched it. Thanks for reporting this bug, I will fix it at some point.
