I installed 10 cannons and they automatically destroyed most of the Rampant nests around my base in just a few hours. This is just too OP. I would like the mod to be more balanced cause now you can just keep installing more cannons so easy. May be it would help to require more resources for installing each next cannon though I'm not sure how to enforce that.

ROFL there is a simple solution, install less cannons. just because you can do something doesn't mean you have to. ;-)

but if you have an idea how to nerf it WITHOUT others complaining, let me know.

  • increasing costs/time/strength dynamically is not possible with the API
  • i could randomly destroy starter kits with an increasing probability depending on the number of installations, but in reality it would be the other way around.

An easy way to make it more balanced is to increase its power usage ,it doesnt make much sense for an orbital ion cannon use to only 50 Kw , when this is a very much late game weaponry with late game levels of dmg.

it would make more sense for it to need an actual power infrastructure to be able to be used reliably right now you can throw up a space platform 1 solar panel and the ion cannon and your good 2 go. (also for comparison 50Kw over 5mins can barely power a 2Kw heater for 2 hours this is a ridiculously low amount of energy to fire something like an ion cannon)

Using Plasma cannons (from bobs warfare mod) as en example base for power use feels balanced

A Consumption of about 28.8 MW round it up neatly at 30 MW while charging (while on cd) and when ready to fire a min consumption of lets say 10 MW

And a bonus would be if you give it neighboring bonus to consume like 5 or x% less power (and possibly 2 or x% reduction in cooldown) p/neighboring ion cannon idk how this would work code wise but itd be a nice addition
