When you need to call down the thunder to deal with those pesky biters, launch a rocket with an ion cannon into orbit and show the bugs who's boss.

I'd love it if, when I have more than a certain threshold of satellites ready (similar to how auto-targetting bug nests is handled), Ion Cannons would attempt to shoot meteors.
