This mod has a bunch of additional testing items over Creative Items, notably logistics variants of the infinity chest. I'm not going to say that you need to use Infinity Mode if you find Creative Items + editor sufficient, but I find Infinity Mode to be much more convenient.

I'm also looking for a replacement for the old creative mod, but this mod seems to be only a replacement for creative items, i.e. basically 90% of the creative mod functionality is missing (no menu to edit settings and so on). Are there plans to add those as well, or is this just a slightly improved version of Creative Items?

Ah, saw what happened, the mod protal says 0.17, but in fact, 0.17.60 is required.

Infinity Mode doesn't have EVERYTHING that Creative Mode had (e.g. Magic Wands), but it does have mostly the same assortment of cheats, with a few additions.
