These guns do not work if they are placed into a car without a driver.
For example, personal laser turrets work in cars without a driver.

EDIT: it does not work in AI cars without a driver (AAI mod - https://mods.factorio.com/mod/aai-programmable-vehicles )
Works in the Spidertron
