I think this mod (or similar) might be a good companion, mainly because increasing the radar scanning range via research would slowly help with surveying the ocean.

I doubt it competes with the seismic scanner, as that is still more practical to do a scan on a new landmass without establishing yourself.
Yeah, radars are significantly buffed vs vanilla but I can see players still might want a bit more. I’d like to add a sonar buoy in the future that scans only in straight lines (so blocked by land) which might help.
